- Precision thickness control – The Veritas String Inlay Scraper accurately scrapes veneer and narrow stock to the exact thickness required for string inlay work.
- Designed specifically for string inlay – Ensures inlay strips are neither too thick to fit the groove nor too thin to leave gaps.
- Unique dual-skate design – Two skates elevate the blade from the work surface, allowing material to pass underneath while acting as a precise depth stop.
- Simple blade height setup – Set the blade height using the thickness of your grooving blade as a shim—no micrometers or rulers required.
- Wide reversible blade – 2 3/4" blade ground at 45° on both edges so it can be flipped, extending time between sharpening.
- Secure brass blade clamps – Two brass clamps with thumbscrews hold the blade firmly in place.
- Chatter-free scraping – Skates positioned 3" apart allow the tool to be skewed to follow grain direction and prevent chatter marks.
- Guided production option – Includes two pins that screw into the base, allowing the scraper to run along a guide strip for consistent production of stringing.

Veritas String Inlay Scraper – Accurate Thickness for Perfect Inlay
The Veritas String Inlay Scraper is designed to solve the most critical challenge in string inlay work: achieving precise thickness. If inlay stock is too thick it won’t fit into the groove, and if it’s too thin it leaves visible gaps. This tool allows you to scrape veneer or any narrow stock up to 2 1/2" wide to the exact thickness needed for a flawless fit.
Unlike traditional scraping tools with a sole that rides on top of the workpiece, the Veritas String Inlay Scraper features two skates that elevate the blade above the work surface. This allows the inlay material to pass underneath the tool while the skates act as a depth stop. Once the blade height is set relative to the work surface, the inlay strip is scraped until the skates make full contact, ensuring a consistent and precise thickness every time.
Setting up the Veritas String Inlay Scraper is quick and straightforward. Simply use the thickness of your grooving blade as a shim when adjusting the blade height to match the width of the inlay groove. This eliminates the need for micrometers or rulers and ensures perfect alignment between groove and inlay.
The tool is equipped with a 2 3/4" blade with edges ground at 45°, allowing it to be flipped when one edge dulls, effectively doubling the time between sharpening. Two brass clamps with easy-to-use thumbscrews hold the blade securely, while the skates—spaced 3" apart—allow the tool to be skewed to follow grain direction and minimise chatter marks during use.
For higher-volume work, the Veritas String Inlay Scraper includes two guide pins that can be screwed into the base. These allow the scraper skates to run along a strip of MDF or other flat material, keeping the tool aligned and making bulk production of stringing fast, accurate, and repeatable.
Constructed from durable aluminum with brass hardware and hardwood components, the Veritas String Inlay Scraper measures 10 1/4" × 3", offering a reliable and long-lasting solution for precise string inlay preparation.
