There was a time when every tradesman carried a saw set in their toolbox — an essential tool for maintaining a handsaw’s performance. After every few sharpenings, the teeth need setting to keep the kerf accurate and the saw cutting smoothly. For years, a good-quality saw set was hard to find — until now.

The Veritas Saw Set brings together the best features of classic designs in one versatile, precision-made tool. It can handle everything from coarse-toothed rip saws to fine joinery saws with teeth up to 28 TPI, all with ease.

Its two-stage spring-loaded mechanism makes operation simple and consistent. As you squeeze the lever, the blade is first clamped securely, then the ram advances to set the tooth against the adjustable anvil. The amount of set is fine-tuned by loosening the locking knob and turning the adjuster to reposition the anvil. A built-in cursor lets you record the setting for repeat use on the same saw.

Designed for comfort and control, the lever and grip reduce hand fatigue, while a widened viewport gives excellent visibility during use. The body is cast from ZA-12, a strong zinc–aluminium alloy that offers the strength of cast iron but with 20% less weight and greater toughness. The ram and anvil are hardened steel, and the knobs are solid brass for lasting durability.
