A Clifton plane blade to fit Clifton No. 4 1/2, 5 1/2, 6 and No. 7 bench planes.

This hand forged Clifton plane cutter is made from High carbon steel. The forging process gives the steel multiple hammer blows which produce a very fine grain structure resulting in a cutting iron of 60 to 62 Rockwell C hardness without any of the brittleness usually inevitable with very hard steel. This means the Clifton blades have a great edge which is retained for longer.

Each blade is individually checked for hardness.

These blades need protecting with a light covering of oil due to the High carbon steel not containing any alloying elements.
